The Wedding Story of Samantha & Davis

I know this blog post contains entirely too many images. In fact I don’t think I have ever created a single post containing this many images from one event or this long of an intro but there was a ridiculous amount of spectacular images from the recent wedding of Samantha and Davis Castillo and their engagement story is excellent so I have included that as well..

Here is their engagement story in Samantha's own words... It was a surprise engagement! He told me that his family wanted to take me and mine to Sambuca for a Christmas/Graduation gift! We arrived and Davis was not there. I got a rose saying he was sorry he could not be there yet but to go ahead and start dinner. So I ordered for him. Throughout dinner I received 10 more roses (white & red), totaling 11 roses. Each rose had a unique notecard attached saying why he loved me and how he loved me. Then a slide show was started and all our friends came around the corner to watch saying it was a graduation video slide show. At the end of this slide show Davis came through the double doors, dressed in a full dress white navy officer uniform, from the kitchen with the 12th rose and the song "Lost in this Moment" began to play. He asked me to dance. At the end of the song he got down on one knee and proposed! I said YES!

Great engagement story! So now let’s pick up with the wedding day.

It started at the Petroleum Club, Dallas, Texas where preparations for the day were taking place. Upon our arrival Sam and her wedding party girls were having their makeup expertly applied by my friend and professional makeup artist Rachelle Espindola. While Rachelle made the girls look glamorous we attended to capturing some great getting ready images and lots of details shots.

The groom, Davis, arrived shortly after dressed and ready for a few portraits with his family and groomsmen. Davis is a fun guy and every bit a gentleman. We learned during the reception that he has lots of respect for tradition and asked Sam’s family for Samantha’s hand in marriage before ever proposing! I think that is so romantic! And after meeting and working with his family for a few minutes during formal portraits I can see where he gets his manners.

Once Samantha and her entourage were dressed and ready to go we grabbed some very meaningful shots with her and her family and the girls from the wedding party. I just love the closeness of Sam with her loving family. It completely shows in the portraits!!

Next we moved across the street for the ceremony. It took place at the gorgeous Cathedral Shrine of the Virgin of Guadalupe in The Arts District of downtown Dallas. With its beautiful natural light and a great looking bridal party it’s next to possible to take a bad shot in this beautiful Dallas historical landmark!

Following the ceremony we took a few minutes to capture a few portraits inside the cathedral and outside on the steps before returning to the Petroleum Club for the reception which took place in the Sky Lobby.

The room was beautifully appointed with floral arrangements by Mockingbird Florist with the whole affair running very smoothly thanks to hard work of event planner Sarah Neuhoff of Neu Events. My friend Peter Bihari was on hand capturing video of the festivities as well. Peter does exceptional work and is the main videographer I refer when a client inquires about video production.

Samantha and Davis opted to have a combination of a DJ and band as entertainment for the reception. As someone who has attended hundreds upon hundreds of weddings I can say this is absolutely one of the best ways to entertain your guests. A good wedding DJ has just the knack for setting up and hosting the events while there is no replacement for great live music. This particular band concentrated on Latin music and even taught those in the crowd who didn’t already know how to do dances such as the salsa, cha cha and so on.

Samantha and Davis’ event was a perfect example of how a couple can plan an event and have it go exactly as planned. Much of that is attributed to having a loving and supportive family to help organize and choosing vendors that you can trust and then let them do what they do best.

Samantha & Davis your wedding was one of the most beautiful I have had the pleasure to photograph this year. It is uplifting to see just how much your families dote on each of you. The only thing that I saw that surpasses the tenderness your families extend towards both of you was the tenderness and emotions I witnessed being exchanged between the two of you. I can easily say you guys are a match made in heaven. Davis you must have known right from the beginning even as she closed that door in your face.;)

See below for a bunch of my favorite images from this event. If that's not enough there's also a slideshow below the images in this post. Or if you were a guest at this event you can go here to view all of Davis & Samantha's images. http://www.pictage.com/565231
